Emory / Biographical Summary
Becky is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Emory University School of Medicine. Her primary research interests include the mechanism of action of psychoactive drugs and the pathophysiology of psychiatric disorders. Specifically these interests include the role of peptide systems in the mechanism of action of antipsychotic drugs and sex differences in schizophrenia. The majority of her research has focused on the role of the neuropeptide neurotensin (NT) in both the clinical efficacy of antipsychotic drugs and the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. Neurotensin is an endogenous neuropeptide that has been hypothesized to be an endogenous antipsychotic-like compound.
Becky was born in Portland, OR in 1968 and graduated from Sherwood High School (Sherwood, OR) with honors in 1986. She later received a B.A. in Biology from Cornell University (Ithaca, NY) in 1990 with a minor concentration in Neuroscience. Becky entered graduate school at Duke University (Durham, NC) in 1990 and transferred to Emory University (Atlanta, GA) in 1991. Becky received her PhD in Molecular Therapeutics and Toxicology from Emory University in 1997. After completing a 2 year postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Becky became an Assistant Professor in the same department in 1999.
