Aging and Mental Health Task Force Pro Health for Seniors Task Force Atlanta Region

The ProHealth for Seniors Task Force was founded in 1986 by the Atlanta Regional Commission Aging Division and the Georgia Division of Public Health Community Health Promotion Program to promote the objectives of a national initiative of US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) called “Healthy Older People”. The coalition is composed of individuals and organizations interested in the health and wellness of midlife and older adults.

Aging and Mental Health Task Force
The Aging and Mental Health Task Force is part of the Pro Health for Seniors Task Force – Atlanta Region which has representatives from mental health and aging agencies.
The task force works with persons who serve older adults to improve their awareness of mental illness in older adults, facilitate collaboration and improve their ability to make appropriate referrals.  The ask force also works to improve older adult’s access to mental health care by restructuring and expanding the mental health listings of the CONNECT database and by supporting resource development initiatives.

Mission
To increase access to mental health services by working closely with those who serve older adults

Goals

-To encourage cross training/education between aging and mental health professionals relative to services, language, resources and service system

-To improve care of persons with mental health illness through promoting the exchange of information and expertise among mental health and aging service professionals

-To encourage working partnerships among members of both fields
