Outpatient Services include:
a)
ECT: This service provides ECT for inpatients both at Wesley
Woods and Emory University Hospital, as well as an active outpatient
ECT program. Currently we average approximately 200 ECTs per month
and approximately 80% of these are outpatients. The ECT service
is both a training program for our residents, fellows, and is the
training site for CME course offered annually by Drs. Thompson and
McDonald. In addition it is the principal source of recruitment
for an NIMH-funded grant studying maintenance ECT (Dr. William McDonald,
PI). Outpatient services are comprised of the JB Fuqua Center, and
the general outpatient evaluation clinic. The Fuqua Center is described
elsewhere in this report. Overall the division had approximately
2,056 outpatient encounters in the last fiscal year.
b)
Partial Hospitalization Program: The PHP had 2056 patient
visits last year, with average daily census of 6-10 patients. The
primary focus of this program is depression, psychotic disorders.
Mildly demented patients are occasionally included.
c) Outpatient Clinic: In addition to the outpatient
ECT Services, the Emory faculty had 2160 outpatient visits in the
last fiscal year. These include clinical programs in Mood Disorders
(Fuqua Center) and Geriatric Neuropsychiatry Assessment
3. Nursing Home/Assisted Living Facility (ALF) Consultation
Services: Two separate, developing programs have been initiated
over the last two years. Dr Tune oversees a nursing home consultation
service that includes 6 nursing homes, with plans to expand to 10-15
in the next year. Dr. McDonald oversees a program focusing on assisted
living facilities that includes 8 ALF’s.
