OVERVIEW:

The Combined Internal Medicine and Psychiatry residency is a five year program which integrates the categorical Internal Medicine residency program and the General Psychiatry residency program. Residents who complete this residency will be eligible for both the American Internal Medicine Board and Psychiatry Board exams. The five year residency is divided equally between Internal Medicine and Psychiatry rotations. Rotations are as follows:

Application Information

We offer 2 first year positions in this program. We only accept PGY1 applications for the NRMP Match through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS): (http://www.aamc.org/audienceeras.htm). All applications are reviewed for consideration of invitation to interview.  The deadline for applications is the end of January.  Applications will be downloaded beginning in September 1.   Interviews are scheduled by invitation in November, December, January and early February.

In summary, criteria for all applicants:

Application material including:

    • Application
    • Dean’s Letter
    • Medical School Transcript
    • Personal Statement
    • USMLE, COMLEX, or FLEX scores
    • CV
    • Three letters of reference

 * IMGs applying to our program must be ECFMG certified by the time we submit our rank list in February each year. Emory University currently sponsors J-1 visas. We do not have any particular USMLE score at which we do/do not grant an interview, but those with the best scores have a better chance of getting invited. We do not require clinical experience in the US (such as an elective, externship or observership). We do not offer externships or observerships through the Residency Education Office.
