The Work Setting:

The Atlanta Veterans Affairs Medical Center is located at 1670 Clairmont Road, N.E. The Psychiatry Units are located on the fourth and fifth floors, and the Outpatient Clinic is located on the ground level of the facility. Students working on this service will primarily work with psychiatric inpatients under supervision. Students are assigned to one of the four General Psychiatry treatment teams. Students are encouraged to seek afternoon time with their attendings in the outpatient clinic and research settings as well. Day to day coordination of their activities is conducted by the Psychiatry Chief Resident.

Attendings Expectations of the Students:

On this Service students are expected to:

1.) Participate in team activities, particularly daily rounds, clinical, diagnostic and treatment discussions.
2.) Be assigned individual patients for further clinical evaluation and case presentations to their respective attendings.
3.) Conduct live interviews, whenever possible, in order to familiarize themselves with the facility's clinical population.
4.) Attend didactic lectures tailored to their level of training, Grand Rounds, Journal Clubs and other academic activities.
