Grady CSU Attending:

Barbara D'Orio M.D.
David Purselle, M.D.
Bryan Price, M.D., Chief Resident

The Work Setting:

The CSU is located at Grady Hospital on the 13B wing. This is a short stay inpatient unit with an average length of stay of 5-6 days. Patients are acutely decompensated with Schizophrenia, Depression and Bipolar Disorder as the most common diagnoses. This unit can accommodate eight patients.

Grady CSU is a three-week rotation. Students then rotate to Wesley Woods for the remaining three weeks.

Attending Expectations of the Students:

Students will perform full medical and psychiatric assessments of their patients under the supervision of the residents and the attending. The student will be expected to identify target symptoms and stressors and to develop an appropriate differential diagnosis and an initial plan. The student should gain a basic understanding of the usage of psychiatric medications and should be able to develop a therapeutic alliance with the wide range of patient types admitted.
