The
Work Setting:
The CSU
is located at Grady Hospital on the 13B wing. This is a short stay
inpatient unit with an average length of stay of 5-6 days. Patients
are acutely decompensated with Schizophrenia, Depression and Bipolar
Disorder as the most common diagnoses. This unit can accommodate eight
patients.
Grady
CSU is a three-week rotation. Students then rotate to Wesley Woods
for the remaining three weeks.
Attending
Expectations of the Students:
Students
will perform full medical and psychiatric assessments of their patients
under the supervision of the residents and the attending. The student
will be expected to identify target symptoms and stressors and to
develop an appropriate differential diagnosis and an initial plan.
The student should gain a basic understanding of the usage of psychiatric
medications and should be able to develop a therapeutic alliance with
the wide range of patient types admitted.
