Wesley Woods is a three-week rotation. Students then rotate to Grady Crisis Stabilization Unit for the remaining three weeks.

Attendings Expectation of the Student:

Wesley Woods Geriatric Hospital rotation will focus on the treatment of patients in two important areas of psychiatry: organic brain disorders (dementia and delirium) and mood disorders (mania and depression). Students will carry 3-4 inpatients and provide the care for the patients under the supervision of an attending physician and psychiatry resident or geriatric fellow. Students will also participate in geriatric outpatient mood disorders clinic one day per week, observe ECT (all of the Emory ECT is done at Wesley Woods) and go on outpatient visit to personal care homes and nursing homes. Wesley Woods is unique in that most of the patients have medical problems that are also managed on the service. All of the patients are geriatric and many with associated neurological problems (e.g. Parkinson’s Disease), and there is an opportunity to continue your medical/neurological/cardiac skills as well as psychiatric skills.
