OUTPATIENT PSYCHOTHERAPY TRAINING PROGRAM

Department of Psychiatry

Emory University School of Medicine

404-727-0399

Description: The Outpatient Psychotherapy Training Program (OPTP) is a psychotherapy service provided by psychiatry resident physicians, supervised by Emory faculty. A limited number of psychology interns also see patients in the program and are supervised by Emory faculty.

Services Offered: Psychiatry residents in the Outpatient Psychotherapy Training Program provide outpatient psychotherapy evaluations and individual, couples and group therapy. Most patients are seen for weekly therapy sessions. Couples, family and group therapy are also offered on a limited basis. The program is unable to provide primary substance abuse treatment or medication monitoring without ongoing psychotherapy.

Entry into the Program: Interested individuals should call the OPTP for a brief intake interview by phone. Those who might benefit from psychotherapy at the OPTP will be referred to a resident for further evaluation and explanation of treatment options for the patient. If crisis intervention is necessary, the patient will be referred to outside resources providing this service.

Fees: The OPTP offers sliding fees based on the patient’s current financial situation, including income, assets and debts. Ongoing psychotherapy fees range from the $95 maximum fee to a $35 minimum fee. Patients are charged $95 for the initial one-hour evaluation session. Fees are due at each session unless other arrangements are made with the therapist. Group therapy fees are determined independently from the above policy.

How to Apply: Individuals may contact the Outpatient Psychotherapy Training Program at 404-727-0399, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
