Welcome
from the Chairman
Welcome to the Emory University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The Department excels in research and scholarship, training and the delivery of clinical services. In the past year, we have continued our trajectory, now ranked 12 th in the nation in the US News & World Report survey of hospital-based psychiatry programs and 12 th among all 125 medical school departments of psychiatry in NIH funding. Moreover, we were ranked number 1 in NIH funding for postdoctoral fellowships. We have 140 full-time faculty of MDs and PhDs and staff, all dedicated to our campaign “Assent to the Top” in which we strive to be #1 in the nation. This department homepage is constantly being updated and revised so we can serve all of you - our patients, our trainees, our faculty and the community. It contains information on clinical services for patients in our world class specialty programs such as Women’s Mental Health, Mood and Anxiety Disorder, the Child & Adolescent Mood Disorders Program (CAMP), the Psychoanalytic Institute, and the Emory Autism Center, to name a few. A number of clinical research projects are available for patients interested in contributing to our understanding of psychiatric disorders who wish to avail themselves of novel diagnostic tools and treatment opportunities. Comprehensive clinical diagnostic assessments can be scheduled with leaders in the field. Information for prospective psychiatry residents and fellows is featured, as are research and elective opportunities for medical students. For those of you in the community interested in contributing to our soon to be launched capital campaign, information on the department development office is provided.
The department has a rich legacy of clinical service delivery at our major sites - Emory University Hospital, Grady Memorial Hospital, the Atlanta VA Medical Center, Crawford Long Hospital and the Emory Clinic. As I enter my 17 th year as Chairman of the Department, I can look back with pride on our remarkable progress and to the future with anticipation of our further success. We have a wonderful family atmosphere of faculty, residents, students and staff. The department not only a place for excellent clinical care, teaching and research, but a wonderful environment to work and learn. I would be delighted to answer any questions you may have about our Emory Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
